Sunday School is a vital ministry on the mission field. Yesterday we buried a young boy in a nearby village. Thank God he attended our Sunday School and had received Christ as his Saviour. His parents were Catholic, so the priest did the service at the boy’s home. He chided the people for not being faithful to his church. They gave me an opportunity to speak at the end of the service, so I preached from Romans 8:10-11. I told the family and the people that they did not need to pray for him to get out of purgatory because he is already in heaven. Some of the family said they wanted to come talk to me later. Pray that I can lead some of them to Christ.
I had noticed that the attitude in our church services in Mbarara and the attendance was down. We now have a time of prayer in between Sunday School and church for anyone who wants to come and pray. Several began to attend, praying for only about 5 min. I have been preaching verse by verse through Romans and was preaching on spiritual gifts out of chapter 12. So far in August we have seen 10 saved and 3 baptized. Others have made professions of faith from the soulwinning outreach. Prayer is so vital to our ministry. The attitude in the church has changed dramatically too.
Continue to pray for our pastors in the villages where we work. They are growing but are under pressure from the charismatic crowd.
We will be bringing them to Mbarara for another week of training in September, so we are preparing the training material for them.
Special Note: Praise the Lord! I was just notified that my Dissertation that I have been working on for several years has been accepted and I have finally earned my Doctor of Theology Degree in Biblical Studies.
We told you in our last prayer letter that we were making bricks for the orphanage buildings. We have made 32,000 bricks and have transported them to the sites where they will be used. The rain destroyed a few thousand bricks, but they are working hard to finish 30,000 more.
Cheri and I are very excited. Robert Parker is one of the men who visited Uganda with the West Coast College group. He surrendered to return as a missionary to Uganda while he was here. Little did we know that months later Robert and our daughter Alisha, who is also called to Uganda, would meet and fall in love. On Sunday night (Aug. 24) after preaching on Life Choices, Robert asked Alisha for her hand in marriage. She said “yes!” Both Alisha and Robert are on deputation. We are not sure of the wedding date, but we will let you know.
Because of Christ,
Bryan & Cheri Stensaas
