One of the harsh realities in Africa is the number of deaths we face. One week we buried a 12 year old boy who had been saved in our Sunday school. Another week a 9 month old baby of a family in our church. A few weeks later we buried a 26 year old lost daughter of a church member. A few weeks later I buried an old man in his 70’s. We really see the brevity of life here.
We explained about Ugandan burials in our bi-monthly email update. We also explained about the witchdoctor’s charms we took from the house of the 26 year old and how we led her father and brother to Christ. Her father was in church again today and has made a profession of faith.
Deep in the village at the old man’s burial there were well over 700 people. I had the opportunity as Paul and Jesus to speak to the multitudes on the hillside. What a humbling experience.
The old man had been dead for over 3 days. Because of the pressing crowd I had to stand pushed up against the wooden casket. The stench from the body was so great that twice as I was preaching I thought I would lose it. I prayed that God would allow me to continue so I could present the gospel without being interrupted. These people need Christ. The Catholic priest would not bury the man because he had not paid money to the church. God gave me another wonderful opportunity to preach the gospel.
They have ask us to come and start a church there as they are fed up with the Catholic ways. I CAN’T DO IT! We are already working 10 villages, pastoring, running a radio station, starting an orphanage, running two Bible institutes etc. Will you “Pray the Lord of the Harvest that He will send forth laborers into His harvest?” Why not you? Why don’t you “Come over and help us?” Let God use your life to count for eternity.
We have been able to build the retaining wall to keep a wall of dirt from washing onto our property. We have also made another 20,000 bricks. Keep praying as we move from one job to another at Project HOPE.
We traveled to Kanungu to help Brother Stephen get property for the church there. I was able to speak to many of the police and officials while I was there. The Mayor of the city, who was saved when we held the medical ministry there, in front of his city counsel begged me to start a Christian radio station there. There is no station in that area. The Bishop of that area has the Pigmy tribe isolated so we can’t get in to minister to them. BUT, he doesn’t own the airwaves! If we could get a station there and give them radios we can get the gospel to them. The Mayor said that he would help us get a place for the station and get set up. Please pray with us about this.
Because of Christ,
Bryan and Cheri Stensaas
