November 2

Today Jacky was able to visit a woman named Grace.  She had gotten “saved” many years ago when someone prayed for her to be healed during a sickness.  Because she was healed, she thought that was her salvation.   After sharing the Gospel with her, she realized she was not truly saved and put her faith in Jesus Christ to save her!  She is the mother of a woman named Alice who was saved in July in our church.  We praise the Lord for people who are concerned for their family members to be saved!  We are praying for Alice’s father to be saved now.

October 31

Andrew was able to go soulwinning with a man named Stephen today.  This man is new to the church and wanted Andrew to share the Gospel with his friend.  In the end, not only did his friend receive Christ, but so did Stephen!  Not too many times do you get to go soulwinning and lead your soulwinning partner to Christ!

October 20

It’s birthday week at our house.  Two of our children’s birthdays are this week, as well as their cousin Marcus’.  Matt and Keila came up to visit us from Mbarara so we could celebrate the kid’s birthdays together.  We had a relaxing time with them and enjoyed the candle-lit birthday party, due to power being off!

October 11

We had a great Sunday in church today, but came home to our house doors open!  Thieves had broken into our home while we were gone to church.  As we walked through the house, expecting the worst, we were surprised to see they had only stolen Andrew’s laptop!  It was a couple years old, but could still be sold for quite a bit here.   We have a small guest house on our property that the Winklers have been living in the past week.   The thieves also broke into that house and stole their brand new laptop and computer bag (which contained their passports).  That evening as we went to bed, we were just so thankful we had anything left at all in our house!  God is good all the time!

October 3

The Winklers have arrived back in Uganda.  They have worked with us the past several years and will now be moving to a town 1 1/2 hours away to start a new church.  This new town is called Iganga.

September 3, 09

Last night our church was robbed.  They broke into two rooms, stealing anything worthy enough to sell and make some money.  They took all our church plates, cups, saucepans, a fan, several chairs, our piano, a box of pens, and even a small container of about 10 pieces of candy that we use as rewards in Children’s Church.  We are in the midst of securing the church property by putting up a chain link fence and also a family is moving onto the property soon so that may help also.  We are praying that somehow our things will be found!

August 28,09

We had 2 of our church families over for lunch today.  We enjoyed a feast of Ugandan food - matooke (cooked bananas), chicken stew, rice and ground nut sauce.  We enjoyed the fellowship of these two families.

August 09

We have been praying for families in our church and are happy that the Lord has given us another family.  Michael was saved and a couple weeks later his wife Alice accepted Christ.  They have 3 very young children, Lynn, Benjamin and Israel. Andrew is busy discipling them - they are so eager they want him to come twice a week sometimes!    Pray for these young Christians to grow and remain faithful!

July 19,09

We are in the midst of a Sunday School contest at church.  The 3 classes (men, ladies, and youth) are competing to win a goat at the end of the contest in September.  The winning class will then enjoy a goat roast at the church for working so hard in bringing visitors to Sunday School.  Before bedtime, our girls’ main prayer request lately is that the ladies will win the goat.  (Then they will be able to go to the goat roast too, because Mama will be going.)  :)

Happy birthday, America!  We had a good day, celebrating with fellow American missionaries from Soroti, a town an hour and a half north of us.  We have had Michael and Christine Campbell with us visiting the past couple of weeks.  They hope to one day come to Africa as missionaries.  They have been exploring the town and trying the different foods Uganda has to offer, including whole fried tilapia (eyeballs included).  Too bad they aren’t here during termite season, so they can try some of those!

June 28, 09

Today our oldest daughter Meagan followed the Lord in believer’s baptism along with 13 others who have recently been saved.  The river we baptize in is about a 10 minute’s walk away.  We are hoping to be able to build a baptistery in the church very soon.

May 09

Holiday Bible Club is our version of Vacation Bible School.  Each afternoon during this week we had around 70-80 children.  We were happy that at the end of the week several of these children made the decision to trust Jesus as their Savior.

April 17

Today we were able to celebrate our little guys, Bryan’s, first birthday.  He really loved his cake and wasn’t satisfied with just one piece.  His sisters had lots of fun making cards for him and watching him tear them up.

April 15

It was a great blessing seeing one of our men in the church preach for the Wednesday evening service tonight.  What a challenging message on “Overcoming the Devil”.  Andrew Padde is a young man that I believe the Lord is going to use in a special way here in Uganda, and he is already being used.  He is active in soul-winning, discipleship, teaching a youth Sunday School class, Bible Institute and now even preaching in the church.

“No one is on the streets today!”  commented one of our girls as we drove to church in the rain.  In America, snow and ice will keep people out of church, but because 99% of our church people walk or ride bikes to church the rain kept many of them at home.  Despite the consistent rainfall though, we still had around 35 adults for the main service and two visitors! Even several children came running to church soaking wet and freezing cold.  We still had a good service with plenty of singing to drown out the pounding rain on the roof.
